Bagged a bargain?

Sophie17Sophie17 Posts: 342
Popped up morrisons earlier for a loaf of bread and some plants accidentally came home with me !! Been googling to find out more about the ones I picked and looking at the prices online it seems that mine were incredibly cheap. Am I missing something or just got a bargain? I got... Honeysuckle Halliana Clematis Hagley Hybrid Clematis Elsa Spath Honeysuckle Serotina Clematis Bees Jubilee Clematis Darius Jasmine Beesianum All 1.77 each If they do well they will cover most of the massive space I have for climbers and all for just over 12 quid

Hi Aym280, I've planted them quite deep and put sharp sand and egg shells around after I watered them in...found a massive snail hotel the other day in the corner! I haven't labelled them but I have a book indoors and I badly draw the garden and label that way so have done that. I've put them all next to my very long fence so they will be in shade until they reach a boy 4ft tall. I hope that will be ok for them. I just googled fuchsia garden news and it's so pretty I hope it does well for you

Hollie Hock, there was quite a lot of varieties to choose from and all looked very healthy unlike a lot of supermarket plants. I'm sure they will have something to catch your eye

Aym280 ok I will do thanks. I've never taken cuttings before and not sure how to really but will look into it. I have a Prince George clematis that I bought last year and wanted another but if cuttings are easy I will definitely try that. Thanks for your advice you've been so helpful

I have bought several clematis and honeysuckle from Morrisons over the past few years for £1 and all of them are doing extremely well! They may be smaller than more expensive nursery bought plants but they establish quickly. For the price you cannot go wrong.

My now large and very beautiful jasmine came from sainsburys as a ??1.50 baby plant.

One thing I would recommend is potting them on and bulking them up for a month or two before planting out, that's if they are very small like my jasmine was.

You're such a bargain hunter. I am trying to learn from you image popped back to morrisons this morning and hunted out some fuchsias, 2 bush 2 trailing. Got another clematis and a honeysuckle and just for good measure 2 penstemon image my garden will be less like an abandoned mess in no time. Last year when I was clearing rubbish and preparing everything there seemed no light at the end of the tunnel but now the plants are going in and I have a vision I'm so happy and at these prices my purse is happy too image

I'm saving for princess Kate clematis because I think it's beautiful and would like it all around the area I sit on the patio....the large wall and fence out the front I am more than happy to fill with morrisons cheapiesimage I got Tom Thumb because it looks simple but pretty and trailing swingtime for my 2 hangers. I saw you could take penstemon cuttings and thought that would be a great idea too image

Looks like you've done a good job there image i totally agree about buying princess Kate in person, if I'm going to spend that much money I want to be able to see them. I do have a QD nearby but I don't really go into the town centre much, maybe 3 times a year. I was reading about acers last week as it happens.
