Peas and beans up a frame.....

hello

any seasoned bean and pea growers out there today please?

the bargain bean stand arrived on Friday and it was erected yesterday. Delighted with it. Time to build a little bed for it today. there are pre-drilled holes to attach wire, string or netting too.

when growing up the frame (below) would it be better to attach netting, or would wire or even string be better?

Thanks

I think netting would be betterimage
  • I've always used netting - easy to put up and there's always somewhere to tie in an escaping bean stalk no matter what direction and position it's in.

Brill. Netting it is then. Thanks ever so much.

Tootles, get netting with holes large enough to get your hand through (or use old stuff you don't mind ripping a hole in) or you may not be able to easily reach pods or beans which decide to grow on the inside of the netting.  Very frustrating if you use netting with small holes like I did many years ago!

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Great tip. Thanks Bob. I'd never have thought of that.

Any other tips on how to get a bumper crop very much appreciated!
