too late to get eremurus flowers?

I have three eremurus Cleopatra crowns which I am just about to plant.  Will I get flowers this year?  I am also a little concerned as they dont have the long roots  I see on videos etc, and I'm wondering if this too will slow down the possibility of them establishing in time to produce flowers this year.  Any help appreciated .

Eremurus are up in leaf, I saw some yesterday, about a foot tall. If you've got them, plant them, they won't improve with keeping. Plant and leave alone, they're not things to be lifted yearly or moved around.

My feeling is that with not much root and not planted yet you won't get flowers this year

Plant with roots shallow and on piles of grit even in sandy soils. Mine are up a foot as nut kindly explains, they will take this year to establish no doubt, but next year will be good to go

They won't flower this year. It takes a year to establish at least and that's if conditions are perfect.

Mine (grown from seed) is about 10 years old and I'm still waiting for it to flower!  Not the right conditions here for them though.  Foliage is strong and reliable but never a flower spike, alas.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

And Monty makes it sound so easy!  Ok am resigned to no flowers this year, I'll persevere.  I have tried them before and they just rotted away, but I've incorporated lots of grit this time, so fingers crossed.  Thank you very much for all your help

I've got a clump that are more than 15 yrs old and took 3-5 yrs to flower originally

can't stress good drainage enough or they will rot!

Had to move them last year, so I divided opportunistically and got only two and a half flowers last year as expected, this yrs clump looks more promising... will keep you posted image
