Soil in Annual flower beds

in Talkback
Hi guys I have a mind to change three raised beds from veg to cutting flower beds. I have just read the secret garden info and it says don't use rich soil. My dilemma is they were veg beds so have quite good composted soil one bed especially because I grew beans last year and chopped the roots in . Has anyone any tips to how to overcome this or do I just not add any more compost and would sharp sand help.

Sharp sand will impoverish any soil primrose, but I wouldn't be too hasty. Unless you're looking at wildflowers I'd see how it goes this year first. You can always add it in the Autumn.
Thanks Dave no I wasn't looking for a wildflower patch more of colourful cutting beds I've put cloches over them to warm the soil and so now will go ahead and sow the seeds now and hopefully will be able to post pics in the summer
