Tomato Feed

Torg22Torg22 Posts: 302

Hi,

My tomato plants are now getting more established and are around 5 inchs tall (in their colour co-ordinated cups image). When should I start to think about giving them tomato feed, any specifics I need to be aware of?

Hi Torg,  you don't need to feed your toms until the first truss ( the stem that flowers and then fruits grow on) it's too early yet.

I absolutely agree with Kitty - don't start feeding until the first truss of fruits have set image

...but when their roots fill those cups they'll need moving into 4" or 6" pots.  6" ones will look enormous at first but they'll soon grow into them.  Plant them deep.

What are they going into eventually?  Growbags?  Large pots? in the ground?

When you do start feeding you can use one of the proprietary solutions available or use comfrey liquid, if you have that.  But don't feed too much - they're best grown hard,  What they must have is regular water - otherwise the fruits will get blossom end rot.

Good luck, if you haven't grown them before - they're one of the most rewarding crops to grow.

    Hi Steve,

I may have to give quite a few away as I havant got room for them all. The remaining ones will either be in bought grow bags (from poundland) that you have to put soil in yourself, or I may choose just to buy a growbag inc soil and just rip a whole and chuck em in image

Thanks for all your help image
