sweet peas

hi when is it ok to put sweetpeas outside,please,any advice.

    It depends where you live but unless you are in the channel isles then not yet. There was a frost in Dorset on the south coast this morning. You can start hardening them off by putting them out during the day and taking them in again at night but we need to be past the frosts or you might loose them.

    They are hardy.

    If they have been hardened off, ie not moved straight out of warm house / greenhouse, then they are fine to go out now.

    I am in Sheffield, and my Autumn sown ones are going out this weekend.

    I am of course assuming they are large sturdy plants, and not little seedlings.

    My Autumn sown are in the ground Caroline. I'm in Mid Wales.

    They're hardy, Caroline.  Mine have been outside in pots all winter and are about to go into big pots around the front door.

    David K is the local expert on sweet peas and there's a thread devoted to them.

    Following this thread I may now be putting mine out sooner rather than later.

    I'm going to grow mine in pots this year, but we had a terrible hard frost near Brighton last night which finished a lot of my daffs off.

  • thanks for all your advice guys,ive grown them from seed,and was scared to plant out,but iam going to know,i have so much to do,and i need the space for more seeds.,thanks.
