Grafting different apple branches onto an apple tree.

Is it possible to graft several different species of apple tree onto an existing apple tree?  For example could you graft on, Idared, Coxs orange pipin, golden delicious and Granny Smith onto a Bramley apple tree?

Would this result in several different types of apple on that one tree as well as the original bramleys?

thanks

Yes you can but it isn't easy and 'scion' grafts often fail.  Try bud grafting (aka chip budding) which is a lot easier but you will have to wait longer for new wood to develop to the fruiting stage.

Do a bit of googling for 'grafting apple trees' and there are also videos on youtube which should help.

That article is amazing, Aym, if rather extreme. I think he would like to have every apple variety on his one tree! Very admirable that he wants to save every variety from being lost. Somehow I think he needs more space.

Just watched it; how interesting! Thanks for posting; I had never heard of grafting different types of fruits onto the same tree.
