New Privet Trimming

Hi, hoping someone can help.

I have bought some single stem privet that is about 50cm tall and has been planted for about 4 weeks. I want the hedge to reach about 1.5m when fully grown. Should I trim the stems now to encourage horizontal growth or do I leave it to grow to desired height then trim back? Thanks in advance- new to gardening!
