Splitting Dahlia tubers

I grew Dahlias for the first time last year and am delighted to have successfully overwintered them. One of the tubers is quite big with about ten or so shoots which are currently about an inch tall. I am tempted to split it - should I? If so how, when and into how many parts? thanks

    you need to have a good look at what you've got and you should see where shoots meet tubers. So long as you have a shoot with tubers attached you'll have a new plant.

    Sometimes they're a bit tangled, but go slowly and you'll get there.

    Thanks Hostafan, do I just use a clean sharp knife? Can I do it now or should I let the shoots get a bit taller?

    the sooner the better , less chance of damaging those delicate new shoots. 

    Clean, sharp knife is perfect for the job.
