Keeping planted seeds safe

Hello all,

I'm hoping to plant a wildflower area very soon. I'm all prepped but need some advice on how to protect the seeds when I sow them as they will be very close to the surface, and whilst it's not an extensive area (approx. 8m x 3m) it's still a bit too big to get netting across. Any ideas?

You could try prunings from prickly shrubs -- we have had success with holly branches and rose pruningsimage

Hi Chicky, thanks for the suggestion! Do you scatter them around the area?

I leave the branches quite long and then place them over in a sort of criss cross gridimage

What are you protecting them from Ree2. They need to be trodden in and I've never protected them and often I have to thin them out.

Hi Dave,  I've read quite a lot about birds etc trying to eat the seeds and that the area needs to be netted. Do birds not go for these seeds?
