It wasn't blackspot Verdun. It was a distorted look, like you get when some types of weedkillers have been used, I don't use them and there's no way they could get a dose from anyone else. It was at, or even before, flowering time. I chucked all the affected ones.

All well this year except for one plant that looks a bit iffy

My hellebores (in Dorset) are very variable too. If I don't feed them now (bulbs planted amongst them) can I do it in the Autumn?

I'd feed them in the spring Berkley - it'll do the bulbs good too image

I bought a couple last year and paid half price because they had already flowered. But so far this year new growth and no flowers? In a semi shady woodland corner of the garden and are from a reliable supplier. Have I got to feed them or something. Disappointed so far at the results. Any ideas?

thanks for your reply. I was hoping to get flowers Feb to March but no sign yet. Never been that keen on them but thought they might look good in a shady space and cheer up the past winter mornings. Would just be nice to see a couple of flowers. I'll take on board the mulching and feeding but think I might have no luck this year. Oh well I'll keep you informed if any flowers start to appear.

ziggy - just a thought to add to Verdun's advice . Are they in a rain shadow where they're planted? They like a damper soil usually. If they're getting too dry they might be struggling a bit.

  • Mine are doing great with lots of flower at the edge of the wood but others in and around the garden have just a few flowers been poor this year.
