Planting partner for Honeysuckle "Graham Thomas"

Can anyone recommend a suitable planting partner for honeysuckle Graham Thomas? I have a number of small potted clematis varieties such as "the president" and "pink champagne" but I have been advised against planting with honeysuckle as they share different pruning requirements. I have done a lot of research but as yet can't seen to find any options. Beginning to think it may have to go in alone! For information, the soil is free draining, fertile and south facing, I have erected a large trellises framwork alongside a fence with the intention of breaking up the harsh lines of the fencing. First time on here and learning all along, so go easy on me!!! image

  • Thanks to both of you for the responses. Am I right in saying that the clematis I have (pruning group 2) will be difficult to manage with the honeysuckle? I am struggling to see how I would prune the clematis. I would ideally like the pink champagne and honeysuckle together but will wait for confirmation that this is possible first.
  • Tetley, that's reassuring to know. I have read a few articles online which state that offering climbing plants "partners" for support is the best way to go about it but there are obviously different schools of thoughts on that view. I will give the honeysuckle / clematis combo a go, planting them a suitable distance apart. Think the two colours, and the fragrance of the honeysuckle will compliment each other perfectly! Thank you for your help.
