China

Lou12Lou12 Posts: 1,149

I accidentally bought some garden items, seeds etc from China recently on ebay - orange cosmos amongst others and was amazed by how quickly they arrived AND germinated. They also sent free safflower seeds and some earrings all at really low prices.

I was always a bit wary about ordering stuff from China in case it didn't turn up and was poor quality but so far this year so good - shoes, clothing, seeds, all good.

Some seeds bought on ebay from China turn out to be what they say they are.image  Some don't.image

You pays your money and you takes your chances.  Fine if you want an adventure - but if I want to be sure of what I'm getting I'll buy from a company that operates under European laws and with consumer's rights etc.

I'm more concerned about wild collected seed/ bulbs from some of these companies.

Possibly, as I say it was by accident - the seeds anyway and orange cosmos aren't wild flowers.

But then you could say all high street clothing is made in terrible workshops that exploit humanity, where does it end really?

That worries me - the fact that it's possible to buy things by accident image

And not all high street clothing is made in terrible workshops - if you're a responsible person you have to do your research and if a retailer doesn't adhere to reasonable standards you have to hold them to account image

I would hold back my judgement on the seeds until they have actually flowered and know if they are what is said on the packet! But good luck anyway!

The biggest problem is the instructions on the packet are in chinese image

It's very easy to buy things from different countries on ebay if you are not on the ball that day, one click and you've bought something from Outer Mongolia, I guess I'll have to start making sure I tick the UK only box in future image

Lou, I don't think anyone,( I know I'm not), is having " a go", but there are some pretty unscrupulous suppliers out there (Again, not saying the one from which you bought falls into that category) and we all have to be vigilant.

There are restrictions on the quantity of plant items which can be imported from non EU countries too.
