reseeding a lawn

mushermusher Posts: 389
Once the grass seed has started to germinate and come through the thinning and bolding parts of the lawn. How long will it be please. Before i can run a mower the entire lawn. The seed is wilkos premier mix. The one you weigh out yourself

It largely depends on your ground musher. It might take several weeks for the new growth to reach a couple of inches or so, a bit longer at this time of year. It's really just a case of checking your conditions so it can be difficult to state a definite length of time.   If the ground's very wet it's best to keep off it whether there's new growth or not.

Have you recently reseeded parts of your lawn?

no at the moment, i was thinking about reseeding it at the beginning of next week. Once it does get to that 2" height would you advise just giving it a light cut to begin with

I sowed a new lawn last summer and because of the time of year, it grew pretty quickly. I probably cut it when it was about 2 or 3 inches, only taking a little off the height. If you're sowing next week it'll probably take a few weeks to germinate and then another few weeks to get a reasonable amount of growth, which takes us into early/mid May. I think it would be fine to be cutting it then  image

The important thing is to  cut regularly, only taking a little off,  and that will help keep it in good shape. You can always reseed any little bits that haven't taken image

I would allow the sward to get a bit shaggy, given that you are reseeding the thin patches.  I would keep it on the longish side until it is well established in the summer and don't cut too close when you do mow.
