cutting-back-a-clematis-montana-that-has-outgrown-its-site

I have cut mine back to about 12" above ground level where there are 2 bud. Should I cut to ground level to encourage new shoots to emerge from below ground?

It  appears you have murdered I t.

It will regrow.   train in any new shoots to where you want them.

  • Thankyou fidgetbones. Good news - it's regrowing already image I did feel like a murderer but it wasn't my plant. I will be looking after it from now on so it's gonna be fine.
