Mice

In December noticed a couple of mouse droppings on the garage workbench

Didn't want them chewing into the bird feed  bins or the cables of the car that lives in the garage or the kids to catch something since I have a young family

Bought some of the old style traps and amazed that I  have caught 11 mice

We are a bit rural but never imagined we'd  catch so many.  No sign of a nest in the garage so must be smelling the raisan bait and coming into garage

Is it normal  to have so many mice?

My dad said you normally  get them in twos

Dad's wrong. Are they house mice or field mice? If you are a bit rural then mice are everywhere. Get a cat. The kids will love the kitten and you'll have fewer mice.

  • And if you don't like cats, get a small terrier dog such as a Jack Russell

I remember getting a phone call from a neighbour, years ago.

" Can you come over, there's a mouse running around the lounge2

" You've got 4 cats, what are they doing?"

"sitting beside me on the sofa , watching the mouse"

    I'd stick with mouse traps.

Mouse traps are cheaper to feed and just as effective. I had one digging in the seed trays in the greenhouse.. a baited trap broke its neck last night. I put the remains out for the fox. In case its got a cousin, another trap is ready and waiting.

Silverlight, what kind of mouse trap did you use?

Could you show any picture or give a link please

  • Thanks for all the comments - very useful

I use bog standard wooden mouse traps with metal spring

Get a nice juicy raisin and squash it under the metal bait holder then tie two bits of thick garden green twine over the raisin. Works a treat every time

Tried nutella and peanut butter but clever little blighters licked it off

They pull the thick twine to get at the raisin and this gets em

I'll post a picture of my trap

    My mice love kitkat

    So do my rats

Keep the traps loaded, ps once the warm weather comes the mice will live happier outside its just nice and warm with a bit free food over winter they love a bit home comfort

I had a mice nest in a chest of drawers in my garage for years but never came in the house and disappeared in the summer

    Happy hunting

  • We have a cat but she's 17 and prefers to spend her day on top of the radiator so not much use as a mouser

I daren't mention the idea of kittens to the kids / wife image

I'll get voted down no problem and then it will be my job to clean up the "there a half eaten dead mouse on the lawn"
