Spring onions

Hi

See attached first tray of spring onion seed of the year planted in modules

great idea i borrowed last year from you tube where you plant 10/12 seeds per module and grow on until 3 inched tall then plant out in the clump they grew in.

Your return is a grown together bunch of spring onions normally resembling what you buy at the supermarket

It does work well and they grow very good i have used Ishekera (spelling may be wrong) however they are long oniond that do not grow a bulb

i plan to grow one tray of spring onions every month until August and will not need to buy any this summer

Happy gardening

    Hi all

just an update on the spring onions where the first tray is now in the ground and the second planted and coming on well, with third tray soon to be planted early next month.

planted in modules they are easy and with a bunch costing at least 45-50p at the supermarket you cannot fail to save some cash, with seeds costing 70p a packet

So if you have a few feet/yards free get planting and enjoy throughout the summers months

    Happy gardening

    hi all

progress on the spring onions going well with three module trays now planted out all at various growing stages. a tray a month will keep the family in spring onions right through the summer and more

with the cost in the shops this is a fool proof way og growing them and can be planted in gaps in the garden

    hi all

got to say this idea of planting in a bunch is amazing and i am now starting to pick my spring onions from the lottie.

I have at count today 80 bunches of spring onions at some growth stage in my garden and cant believe how easy the plantng method has been

give it a go you out there and if your crops come good like mine spring onions all season fresh from the garden and not 50p a bunch from the shops

Hi Chris, what soil did you use to start your seeds off.

Chris doesn't post any more, his last post was Dec-2016 so it's unlikely you will get a response, but thanks for resurrecting this thread.

Think I'll try  sowing and planting spring onions in clusters.
