Black Spots on Laurel Leaves
Hi there,
I just received a delivery of forty laurel trees and there are black spots at the base of nearly every leaf. The chap on the phone from where I got them said that is fine and will cause no harm to the plant. Can anybody give me some advice, I’m a complete beginner!

Alan the supplier is telling porky pies. That's bacterial shothole disease with a touch of powdery mildew thrown in. Demand replacements or a refund. The shothole is more difficult to cure than the powdery mildew even so you've paid good money for poor quality plants.
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your reply. I showed a cutting to a few gardeners and they agree with you.
The supplier has refunded the money and the plants will be returned, I’ll be ordering from somewhere else.
Thanks again.
Result!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Good result Alan. Shame you had to have the issue though. Disappointing when firms try to palm customers off with poor quality plants of any kind.
Hope the next lot are in good condition!
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Very happy for you Alan.
