Should I Plant or Pot

I have been given two roots to plant from a friend that went to a plant fair this weekend. Hedychium Gardnerianum which from reading on google seems to be a member of the ginger family and appears to be invasive. The stickers on the roots say "Can grow to a height of 6ft but usually 3-4ft? Has anyone got this in their garden or had problems? Or would it be safer to pot up?

I grow them like dahlias. Lift in Autumn and leave them to dry out.

I think I'd pot that with a view to winter protection

I visited a garden last summer (Pine Cottage Plants in Devon .National collection of Agapanthus  ) and they left theirs in the ground all winter, don't even mulch over.

    Devon.

Ah, but that was in Devon. Milder than many parts of the uk.

Not invasive around here in the east midlands. the frost gets them.

I grow them in large pots.
