Anemone

Bought a couple of Anemone White Wind from the GC 3 weeks ago - so pleased with them. Never had this plant in our garden before and I was surprised at just how tough they are and yet the flowers are so delicate and beautiful. My question is - can they be grown from seed and if so, how and when do I collect the seed?

Wind flower is a common name for anemone.

I think you have a white Anemone blanda there. They seed, not sure if white seeds reliably white, the default colour may be the mauve.

Just let them seed, they will. Or put a pot under the seed head as it ripens. Don't save it, sow it.

  • Thanks for the advice nutcutlet - yes, I think the label also did say blanda. So far I have taken the dead flower heads off and discarded them - but I will save them from now on - have you ever sown them from seed?

Never grown from seed in pots, no. They seed around without my assistance. I've seen gardens where they've really made a job of it' Lovely at flowering time and not too obtrusive with the dying leavesimage

They die back after flowering, don't think you've lost them. They'll be ones to not only sow fresh but leave outside til they germinate as well. No heat required

  • Sounds simple! They are planted in a granite trough now - but in their GC pots, so I may move them around to another part of the garden once they have flowered without disturbing the roots. Thanks.
