Bushes Growing Top Heavy

Hi,
Hopefully there are pictures attached for reference.
I have a row of these Tree/Bush/Shrubs (yes I'm an armature gardener ) and last year I removed rouge bushes growing in between them mainly because during the winter the rouge bushes would lose their screening abilities.
So I decided to get rid of them in the hopes that the evergreen I have there would eventually sort it self out and provide all year round screening from the neighbours garden.
If the pictures are available - as you can see the rouge bushes that were previously there have caused the evergreens to grow in an odd way as they were obviously fighting for dominance and growing towards the sun.
One of the bushes is REALLY top heavy with growth and has very little in comparison to its lower end.
I'm not sure what to do - do I let nature take its course? Or do I start hacking the tops?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and also if anyone could actually tell me the name of the Tree/bush would also be appreciated too.

You need a dose of patience. Conifers grow upwards quite rapidly but need time to spread sideways, even without other shrubs in the way. Yours are planted quite far apart for a hedge so it will take even longer.
By all means, keep the tops trimmed both horizontally and on the sides facing the two gardens as this will encourage more lateral growth to fill in the gaps but you may also want to consider putting small conifers in those gaps too fill them like a proper hedge.

Thank you for the reply and information.
Would you suggest I remove the Laurel that is in between and plant Conifers there instead then?
Absolutely. Laurel is a thug and will outgrow the conifers. It also has large leaves which look dreadful after being clipped with hedge trimmers - lots of brown scars on the broken leaves.
I will take your advice and see how I go
Greatly appreciate your advise. Many Thanks.
There are very few threes I detest, but leylandii is one of them....
