I have a south-facing covered balcony, open at the sides above waist height, the bottom half is glass. First, what pot plants would be suitable (maybe evergreen?) and second, what is the best way to treat the wooden floor of the balcony? Many thanks
I water the pots on my terrace every day in summer when it's hot here in SW France.
You should be able to plant exotics and Mediterranean plants then, like banana plants, agave, cannas, bamboo. Or certain grasses, lavender, small leafed hebes.
Makes sure the balcony can bear the weight and watering won't leak onto anyone else's property. I you make something like a roof garden you may need planning permission.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

A lot of pot plants would be suitable, it depends on your taste. Do you like colourful annuals or calm greens and evergreens? Modern or cottagy?
There are several useful sites about balcony gardening, like this one.

This is in London - really thinking of evergreens and very modern

Geraniums for colour. They like it hot and dryish. Also Begonias. They like it in pots.
