Have I just ruined my day lilies?

I have some day lilies in a dark part of the garden. Someone gave me them last year and I just put them in the soil so that I can plant them out this spring They had 2-3 inches of green grown that has been eaten by slugs and have holes in etc. The green growth though has been there over winter and hasn't died back or gone brown. I decided to cut the green growth off to the ground as they looked terrible. Will they grow back or have I ruined them? Thanks

They should grow back soon, and once they get established the slugs will not be a problem.
They might, depending on their size. If not this year then next year, probably.
