overlapping fence
Would an overlapping 7ft fence high bt 10ft across be sufficiant enough to supply me with privacy/noise reduction - or should i just opt for a brick wall. Aware height is over the usual 6ft or so.
Thinking of a overlapping fence, a gap, then another overlapping fence. The gap filled with...i don't know..all weather soft bits - to absorb general chatting from neighbours.
To complete the look i would then plant 2 - 3 trees which will grow slightly over the fence. Any thoughts on growing a thin, 7ft tall plant/tree/evergreen - and in a pot - largeish.

Planning permission would need to be considered for this most likely as over 6'?
I am debating re a gabion wall or a solid - overlapping - fence ( not particularly cheaper than a wall but may look a bit better ). I was thinking, of a overlapping fence, a 3inch gap and then another overlapping fence.
On advice from this site - softer material ..can..deaden sound apparently. So i was then thinking of throwing in the gap ..well..im not sure what exactly...one person said - large bark chippings...but surely they will just rot and smell.
Any other material? obviously weatherproof. And...sadly..cost is an issue..bark chippings would of been cheapish enough..so along those lines.
Thoughts more than welcome.
Is the noise really that bad that you are considering a 7ft fence with insulation AND plants?
I could understand if they are playing heavy metal all day on a marshall amp facing towards your house but chatting?
Maybe it's time (and cheaper) to have next door over for a barbeque and a few drinks and get to know them. I think all of our intolerance is leading to a lot of neighbour problems where there isn't a problem just normal family life.
The only way we are ever going to get complete peace if if we go and live somewhere isolated in the countryside like a cabin in the woods. It's tempting sometimes but neighbours can be great too.
As there is here at the moment Pansyface, next door neighbours kids sound like they are having a screaming contest whilst their dad juggles chainsaws
I've been outside digging for most of the day and I just turn the radio up.
thanks for replying however everyone is different in what they think is noise, and no-one has suggested an answer to this issue. Annoyance can be the word used - however i want to sit in my garden and not listen to overbearing endless chit-chat.
Anyone with idea re overlapping fence, double skinned with some type of material inside please let me know.
