Is this a type of grass?

CraighBCraighB Posts: 758
Hi guys, Found a lot of this plant today hiding in a corner so I decided to dig it up and take it home Can anyone tell me what it is? It looks a bit sorry for itself as lots of the leaves you can see are brown and the healthier leaves are snapped and bent and it looks a mess. Can I cut it back at all and will it grow back? Thanks

Carex pendula, technically a sedge, not a grass.  wild flower of weed,, you choose.

Seeds like a demon so beware

Suitable for my garden, not CraighB's image

I have one about 2ft across at the base, much more at the topimage

there was one at the front of this house when we moved in. Years of seeding means I'm inundated with them every spring.

Dozens, no that's not true, hundreds of seedlings waiting for me to remove right now.

Hmmm sounds like I shouldn't put it in the garden lol

Don't want it taking over! I did think to myself my mum wouldn't have bothered to plant it herself and there were a few other looking a mess by her next door neighbours fence, so I suspected it had come from the seeds of that.

Don't do it CraighB. There are loads of other plants with that shape that are well behaved

One of my red hot pokers is looking a bit like that.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
