I find that very small plugs are very good value, but you have to remember that they have been grown in perfect conditions,we have no hope of giving them that sort of perfection, the best we can do is to give them heat and light and keep them moist.if you have a heated greenhouse and some experience most will start to grow and you will have alot of plants cheaply,However that said if you lack experience and cant supply heat and light, you will do better by growing the larger size plugs that will be easier to handle although costing more they will be more robust and give you confidence in growing,if you still want to try the small micro plugs go for hardier plants, rather than things like begonias or impatiens which are very fragile and very tender when tiny.Hope this helps
We bought our plug bedding plants from a very big, well known DIY chain last year - they did remarkably well and produced masses of flowers. I think we lost one plant from 90 plugs - and although I am growing some plants from seed I intend to go back to the same shop for more plug plants this year.
The plug plants I bought last year came in tea bags! without the tea I might add. I tore the teabag off before I planted them into 3" pots & planted them in their final position once the roots were showing through the bottom of the pots - took some time to do this but was well worth the effort - people stopped by to say how good the flowers looked - I must look for a photo.....

Thanks Dove- I will have a gander .
blimey- that made grim reading! Back to the drawing board for a good supplier. Any suggestions welcome!
Unless you're after a particular variety why not use a local GC. At least you can inspect what you're buying.
Good point Dave- probably safest bet.
