Plant ID Help!

image

Hi all,

Does anyone have any idea what this plant is?  We took over the garden a couple of years ago and I've been busy clearing and creating new planting spaces.  These came up last year and we now have a fair few in our borders!! Is it a weed?!

Many thanks! image

Looks like some sort of euphorbia/spurge.  They can be quite striking when they flower.  Be careful when handling though - their sap can burn your skin - wear gloves and beware of your eyes.

Looks like Euphorbia lathyrus to me.

It self seeds freely and often springs up in freshly disturbed soil.

A striking plant but as Chicky says, do beware of the sap as it can burn.

As the others have said - a weed Euphorbia (lathyrus) not one of the cultivated forms. They spring up at this time of year and can get to a decent size too. It would be chucked here too if I  got it Verd  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Hahahaha!! Oooooh! Thanks guys for your feedback!  This is the smallest of them... The others in one of the front borders are huge!!  Probably not good to have around with a little girl and a bouncy dog! Its on my hit list for the weekend  now!! image
