Is it possible to grow blueberries in car tyres if I stack them two high and line them with weed control matting,and fill with Ericaceous compost,or could I get away with only one tyre depth. Regards Peter
I feed mine with fertiliser especially for plants in ericaceous compost, acid loving, but not the baby ones yet.
I had a big crop off one bush, the other two were slightly later and the birds found out so I lost most of them. French netting is useless and the birds get caught in it, so bought some decent netting when I was in England, hope it does the trick;
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
As well as the ericaceous (john Innes is best for longevity) I add Sulphur chips (available online, to help maintain the low PH required. I feed mine with Comfrey liquid and mulch with pine straw collected from underneath conifers. Avoid tap water (more often higher PH), use rain water instead unless it's an emergency.

I think 3 tyres would be best, one is too shallow for anything much.

Three tyres is a bare minimum I think.

I always water with rain water as I have hard tap water.
Just a thought....car tyres are known to be carcinogenic, maybe worth thinking about when growing food crops.

Even if static and lined?
