Marguerite seeds, Argyranthemum frutescens

GwernenGwernen Posts: 2

I'm having problems sourcing marguerite seeds.

I've grown them in the past, no prob with  sourcing or growing them but last year and this year I've hit the proverbial , can't find 'em anywhere, online or in shops.

Bought these last year....

...they aren't marguerites as we know them Jim, I'm after these of course (cheers B&Q, I've got twenty of the unwanted plants thriving around the edge of the veg as unwanted plants tend to do)

Rather than buying the plug plants which seems to be the way the industry wants me to do it could anyone kindly let me know where to buy seeds please?

Most argyranthemums are propagated from cuttings.i have kept one that I was given, i take cuttings every Autumn to overwinter for the following year. I was given the original plant over 20 years, ago.

  • If you ask me I rue the day I sowed the seeds image I love white daisies to bits but I have self sown plant lets every where except inside the greenhouse every pot and bed veg or flower are smothered . I'll not have to sow another margarite till they day I topple off image

That being said they make a lovely vase full image

PS : I've spent the day weeding and hoeing and my backs feeling the pain I think it's coloured my view of themimage sorry

Primrose, do you have ox eye daisies, they do tend to self sow. Argyranthemums, the frost usually gets them.

  • Sorry fidget quite possible but I thought I had purchased margaritas image don't count on I t  but they are definitely white  daisiesimageimage  (did I mention mine's a cottage garden image it does what it likes when it likes)

Thanks for the link FL3, I did see that page but parked it due to the lack of information, ie no image, description etc.

Very odd that only one merchant's selling just one type of marguerite when so many varieties are on the market in plug form.

Re cuttings, they're okay if you want the same plant year in year out which I don't, I enjoy growing from seed and like to try out different plants.

Could be plug plants for me this year. Or Lidl who have 'em in currently. Cheers for the replies.

  • Hi, can anyone recomend a tried and tested method for taking Argyranthemum cuttings? I have two beauties I bought from the garden centre and would love to keep them going but have no experience with growing from cuttings. Many thanks in advance!
