Grass seed not growing - what should I do?

I decided to lay some grass seed a month ago having first laid top soil. It was at a time when the weather was quite mild and we were getting a little rain most days.

Unfortunately, a day or two later the temperature dropped and we had frost a few times, plus lots of rain. Apart from literally a few tiny patches, no grass has grown.

Once the weather looks better for growing grass, will this seed then grow, or do I need to sow more seeds? If so, do I literally just sprinkle the seeds over the existing ones, or do I need to do anything more like adding more topsoil?

Thanks

humm.... a month ago was mid February which is rather on the early side for grass sowing.  Where are you?  The recommendation for grass sowing in England is March onwards.

I should think it will germinate when the temperature risesimage

  • Thanks Redwing - I thought it was a bit risky. I live in Bath.

And thanks Nutcutlet - I'll just leave it for a few more weeks and see what happens. The seeds are all still there, so will keep fingers crossed.
