Section part of garden off to our digging up everything dog!

Hi We have steps up on the garden and I would like to section it off with some sort of fence and a gate so we humans have the majority and Stanley (our FCR) can come and visit when we want him to as we can supervise him.  We grow vegetables and have a greenhouse along with a wide border that we don't want him to have access to without us being around.  Any suggestions please?
