Help with leggy new privet hedge
Hello I'm looking for any guidance on my 2 yr old privet hedge which is looking pretty leggy. Do I cut it right back this month (March) or leave it and see if it fills out? Thank you for any tips you can offer Wendy

Cutting it back will encourage new side shoots to grow so that it bushes out into a good dense hedge. I'd cut it down to about knee height and give it a feed of Fish, Blood and Bone - privet is a greedy plant.

Should I cut it back now ie mid March?
Verdun beat me to it.....aim for a pyramid shape with it wider at the bottom.

My last Q about cutting back now-will
It matter if we get another frost? I live in central scotland.
Privet is pretty tough - the best time to cut it back is in early spring so any time around now will be fine

It'll be fine Wendy - I'm in the same part of the world. Privet isn't affected by frost and will benefit from a good chop! A feed and a good tidy up will make it perform much better
We find it works for Verdun too.....
