Lawn trouble
Hi everyone, last year I removed all of the moss and thatch from my new garden and ended up with no grass! I then seeded the lawn and I have also tested the ph level and added like to try and raise the ph level. Having just cut it this year, I am pleased to say the moss has not returned but I now have a lot of patches of Yorkshire fog. there is so much of this that I'm not sure of I should dig the lawn up and get some turf or try and get rid of it. If I were to get turf, how would I prevent this from returning. I'm new to gardening so any advice would be gratefully accepted. Oh, to make matters worse, it's the front garden with competitive neighbours! Xx

Racheal I'd guess you have poor drainage. You need to increase the drainage by spiking and brushing in grit, as much as you can. It's not a quick process but takes time and patience. I'd even consider a top dressing of grit. It won't look pretty but in some gardens it's a necessary evil.
Yorkshire fog doesn't much like being mown. I have large area of grass and left a part unmown as meadow . The YF predominated and looked very beautiful in the early part of the summer. I mowed it harder for a year or two, then let it regrow and most of the YF has gone without me doing anything else. Doesn't work for couch though
Hi Dave, thanks for your reply. It's a south facing garden and the soil is really dry. I did spike it last year as I thought that could be the problem. I'm think im going to take up the lawn and start again. I realised that I didn't spray the lawn with weed killer before planting the lawn seed last year!
HI Buttercup, im guessing it is Yorkshire fog, through looking at images on google and comparing! But it looks like it. Do you think a good soaking of weed killer will get rid of it and stop it coming back?
