Ahh!! That's certainly not my plant is it lol Yea I think it's safe to say it's not Scabious I have grown!

Thanks for the photo nutculet. At least when I reorder some seeds I know what I'm looking for when they start to grow.

At the time to be honest the compost would have just been some wilko multi purpose stuff. I think next time I will stick to a John Innes.

Mine is in a silly place too near a path Brenda. My excuse is that it seeded itself thereimage

Brenda what size in terms of width does it take up? Height is not a problem it's just I don't want it pushing everything else to the sides of it out the way image

Have you got a big garden CraighB? This one towers above everything else in the garden and will look out of proportion if it's the only large item.

Field scabious would be a better bet.

Where are you? what sort of things grow well for you?

I don't have a big garden unfortunately nutcutlet so your right the Giant Scabious would probably take over. I have added a picture of my garden from last year. Not too bad I think for a beginner. I only started to get interested in gardening about 2-3 years ago image

Brenda I have actually ordered some Knautia Macedonica now so I think I will leave the Giant version until I get a bigger garden maybe in a few years time. The problem with me is because I am new to this, I want to grow or have every plant I see in a small garden and I am struggling to fit it all in image

I have three of these, one in the front, one in the sunny border, and one in the long border. this is a picture of the long border a couple of years ago. The Cephalaria gigantea is in the middle with the yellow flowers. It was first year flowering. it is now a huge clump about 3 ft across. it grows 6 ft high

It doesn't let me click on the picture for some reason. Comes up with html text?

Knautia macedonica "Melton pastels is smaller at around 3 ft with a 1 ft mound of leaves,  but soft pinky purple flowers.

I think the astilbe you are talking about is actually a tree. I can't remember the name now but it's a Japanese tree with the branches hang downwards but without looking at the label I can't recall the name. Also that part of the garden at the back gets shade for most of the day but does get a slight bit of afternoon sun, so not sure scabious would grow well there?

Thank you for the nice comment about my garden though image I've just had a delivery of a polystichum setiferim Fern today and I can't wait to get it in the garden tomorrow image
