Clematis plug plant offer - advice needed

Maybe yours just needs a bit more food and water?  Mine has more stems emerging from the ground but I guess they will take a while.

Forgot to mention I always use some mycorrhizal fungi when I pot/repot. Not sure if it helps but it makes me feel better. image

  • I must admit that I didn't feed or water it during it's dormant period Daisy, but started again about 4 weeks ago - well before any sign of buds/leaves appeared.  I was advise that it would be o.k. in a pot, so I am more than a little disappointed with it's progress - we spent nearly £20 on a new pot, and then another £5 - £10.00 on the trellis. Oh well, put it down to experience and try harder next time!!

A good sign that you have more stems emerging from the ground, shows that the plant is thriving in that area of your garden.  I have never used mycorrrhizal fungi - can I get this at the GC - what does it actually do?

I buy mine in packs from ebay but I'm sure GC will sell them. They encourage the plant to develop a larger more healthy root system.

  • Seems like I may need to look out for this - perhaps it will help my plants to thrive far better than some of them do at present, often they don't take when being potted on or planted out after growing in pots.. Thanks for the tip Daisy.

Let me know if you have difficulties finding it and I can send you some.

  • Daisy, that is very kind of you, thank you.  I will look out for some perhaps at the w/end.   A good excuse to make yet another visit to the GC (and I bet that isn't the only thing I will come home with)!

  • It is a while since I updated my clematis plug plants on here.  Firstly the clematis Montana Rubens that we were very concerned about as I had been advise it would be fine in a pot.  The pictures show last winter and yesterday, I have been religiously twisting the new shoots between the trellis to help keep the plant neat.  I only had a few flowers this year but hope to see more developing next year.  How long the plant will last in this large pot is anyone's guess, but hopefully a few years yet before it becomes pot bound..imageimage The next picture shows the 5 clematis plugs I received from G.W. this year.  They are about a month behind the ones of last year and I am not sure if they will be ready to plant out later this month.  What is the latest that I can plant them outside this year please?image

  • Did anyone else take up this G.World clematis offer this year?

Hi GD - they look a pretty good size. I'd be tempted to  plant those out quite soon. They should continue to grow on well for you for another month or two - bearing in mind your milder climate. It's rough, windy weather they need a bit of protection from more than anything when they're young.

If the location they're going in is a bit exposed, it might be worth potting on again and waiting till spring, but if it's sheltered, I'd go for it. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
