Plug Plants

  • Amy280 - yeah I think Echinaceas (coneflower) are my favourite too - seem to divide easy to around this time of year or autumn and create multiple plants.

Not too late for plug plants - I think ideal time for getting them is early April, then approx 1 month of potting up (just leave outside in sheltered place and ensure do not dry out), and then ready to go into the ground.

Verdun, I've got 6 rudbeckias that were planted as 9cm plants last April and flowered really well too - should / can I divide these or am I too late to gain a few more?  Is it simply a case of digging up and 'chopping' in half?

  • I have bought several hundred british wild flower plug plants over the last 3yrs and when they arrive I just bang them straight in where I want them. I don't pot them on or anything. I put them in, in the early spring and for the first 6 months or so protect from slugs. Most flower the following spring / summer but all flower there 2nd summer.

OK may loose a few but not many.

This spring (February) I've put 100 Betony and a 100 Bugle plugs straight in the ground where I want them. I'll be surprised if loose more than 10% and i'll be expecting 70%'ish to flower spring / summer 2017 and all of them 2018.
