How to plant hardy geranium divisions?
Hi, I have been given some hardy geraniums from a friend but I didn't get it as a whole plant. It looks like individual divisions so they are not in a clump. Each one has its own roots and is a longish thick piece of root with smaller roots coming off it. There are a couple that have started to have shoots. The others are bare. So I wondered how do I go about planting these. Should I plant a few of these single roots together in a clump or plant each one a distance away. The reason I ask is because from a single root I can't imagine it will produce a bushy plant in the first year and don't want big gaps in between them. Also do I plant them so that the crown is below soil level? Thanks Craigh

Hi CraighB
Do you know what sort of geraniums they are? Some are much bigger than others and you can get a good amount of growth quickly.

If they look spindly I'd put them close together, 3 or 4 inches. If chunky roots about 6 inches.Make sure all the root is buried. the top at or fractionally below the surface. If the tops have green shoots they need to be on the surface.
That should do it
