I emptied my two darlek bins this weekend, filled mostly with chicken run scrapings and grass on Saturday and found the most crumbly black gold in there! Only the top foot in the second one needed to go back in, it covered around 15sqm of the beds in the garden! This year I will be composting with a vengeance, I've also got four builders bags filled with leaves collected from clients gardens last autumn that I intend to spread late summer once it's broken down a bit more

you're all too late, I've baggsied Michael's share .
Oh Tootles, you've given me hope! My compost bin is in a shady cool place and I was beginning to despair. I shall be patient.
Have a fettle under the surface Dyers. I also put some sheets of news paper in which might have helped.
Dont give up - it's lovely stuff!
I tear my newspaper into 1" 2.5cm ribbons. Some scrunch, but I find it breaks down quicker if shredded.
