Forsythia - forgot to prune
Hi, I didn't prune my forsythia after it flowered. From a distance my forsythia is bare but I haven't had a close look. My question is when should I prune it? Do I cut it back now and see what happens next year or wait until later on to prune... Many thanks for any help!

I'm sure it's not too late, There are still a few flowers on mine. Do it now. Older stems back to base rather than shortening all over. It creates a better shaped shrub and the whole lots gets regenerated over time

Has it flowered this year? if so, prune it now, if not, wait 'till it has. The flowers are produced on the previous year's growth.
I'd disagree there nut. Let it flower then prune. When it's in flower you'll see which stems produce the best flowers. The stems that don't produce good flowers can easily be taken out straight away. Then you can enjoy the flowers while they last, then prune.
I assumed it had flowered Dave. Mine has, and SD4 said forgot to prune after flowering.

No problem nut mines bare as a badgers right now.
Buds , but no flowers on mine at the moment. I never prune mine as it blocks the view of the terrace from the farm lane.
Tractors have very high windows.
Not often I'm first with the flowers

prune after flowered. Mine only got small buds on, didn't know if they were flower or leaves, so I put a couple of peices in a vase of water, they opened up into flowers in one week.
