Garden pests

Anyone come across lily beetles yet? I found one when gardening this afternoon. Is it a bit early to be finding them?

I found one overwintering amongst the gravel and dead leaves in a pot of agapanthus a month ago - it is now an ex lily beetle image

Better keep a lookout for more then. You definitely have to squash them to get rid -ugh!

I hold a a piece of paper under my fritillaries and catch them as they fall off [ they have an escape mechanism of falling off the plant if disturbed]. I tenderly place them on one of my paving flags then crush them with a stone [and great satisfaction].

Make your garden more attractive to hedgehogs. Naturally hunt them down.
