Basement Patio

Hi,
I am a novice gardener so hoping someone can help me. I looking for recommendations on what would grow well in pots a basement patio area. This area is at the front of my property and do not receive any direct sunlight however, it is well sheltered (as well as it can be Scotland!).
I look forward to any suggestions you may have!

Hi Clara - how big an area have you got? Do you want bright colours or do you want something you can look at all year round - evergreens?
Also - do you have a decent window ledge which would take window boxes?
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
