New allotment

hi

We are excited owners of a new allotment which was literally a field when we got it in november.  We have been digging, digging digging and finally have been able to add some well rotted manure from a friends horse!  However my question is: what can you  use wood ash for, it seems a shame to put it in the bin.

i am reading all your forums and picking up loads- thanks!

Wood ash can be put on your compost heap or applied directly to soil and dug in. It adds potassium to the soil and has a slight liming effect.

Make sure it is from untreated wood, with no nasties such as MDF, otherwise throw it away.
