That green thing is hairy bittercress. Your astrantia could very well be doing quite nicely underneath it so just pull the weed out and wait for the the astrantia to reappear as the weather warms.
I've got a scary amount of this stuff in my garden. It pulls out easily, but if memory serves, it has a 5 week life cycle! so it'll seed very readily and every few weeks there's more.
Lovely day here today and I've been out there for hours weeding, and it's mostly this stuff, and celandine and worst of all, arum I'll never be rid it!

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
Now I have had a proper look around Pete8....me too, and Willowherb. I hate the stuff, in the pots and everywhere. Hopefully it will stay dry here today and tomorrow and I can get out tomorrow and give everything a good tidy. Clay soil not great for walking on at this time of year, so I need to sort the lawn too.
I don't seem to get Arum so I don't know much about it. (a quick google tells me it's a nightmare though) Chickweed, this bittercress and Willowherb seem to be what I have.
I have zoomed in on the picture, hope this works...
Lyn, thank you. Those pictures are very helpful, I will keep them for reference.
At the risk of sounding like I really don't know what I am doing, why on earth are those roots half way out of the ground? Did I not plant whatever it is deep enough or can plants rise up if they are too wet?

To the right of the hairy bittercress, there are some shoots emerging, they look like Astrantia to me.

I can't bring the photo up clear, but these are Astrantia seedlings and the second pic is when they have a true leaf.
Punkdoc do you mean these?

The one with the roots partially out of the ground, and the reddy / purple shoots, looks like an Astrantia to me.
