Salvias

I have been bitten by the salvia bug and last year bought a couple of hot lips that provided months of colour and brought in loads of insects.

I am considering getting the Amistad and Involucrata and any advise on a shorter variety for the front of the borders would be appreciated.

I have African Sky/Skies (listed under both names, not just me that's confused!) which is brilliant blue and glorious. Treat it with care though, as it is a bit brittle and it is easy to break it with rough handling. Also have Neon, hot pink. This one sprawls gently, in a nice way, to poke its flowers up among neighbouring plants, good for planting combinations. Both are tender, but both root easy-peasy from cuttings (gritty compost) so you could grow some small plants to overwinter indoors, that would flower the following year. Ashwoods have a good selection (better put a lock on your purse firstimage)

  • Morning thanks for the advise Verdun,

Buttercup, just looked at Ashwoods what a great selection at brilliant value need a very large lock on the purse...imageimage

Looks like Salvias are my new addiction....

There are no signs of my Black and Blue at the moment, so maybe lost it, but I have lots of cuttings from it.

The Hot Pink hasn't lost its leaves over winter so seems the most hardy, lots of cuttings from her also.
