Getting hold of good crocus bulbs cheaply

turmericturmeric Posts: 830

Hello all,

Is there anywhere where I can get lots of crocus bulbs for my garden without paying the usual £3.99 etc for 6?  I'd like to plant drifts in my little front and back garden but the cost will soon mount up at those prices.  Obviously I won't get them until later in the year but I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations?  Many thanks.

I use Gee Tee ( also known as The Bulb company ) for bulbs.  Peter Nyssen is also highly recommended. Most of the specialists will supply large quantities of crocus or any other bulb, especially if you only want a mix. image

I second Peter Nyssen. They always have a good selection of species crocus. I'm sure they aren't nearly that expensive.

Thanks Fairygirl.  I'll check them out for prices.

Just bear in mind that 100/200 crocus might sound like quite a lot, but that amount doesn't go far if you have a few areas to plant up  image

I'm new to spring bulbs this year and with the amount I needed to buy I have to admit that I did it on the cheap. I paid dearer for hyacinths and I've just adopted some snowdrops in the green from my dad because my bulbs didn't come to much.Everything else came from poundland. The daffs look lovely, tulips are showing through now and the crocuses (all 450) of them are beautiful. I plan to buy more in the autumn.

Please don't tell me you got 450 crocuses from Poundland and they look great Sophie?! How many in a packet? That would be a fantastic bargain.

If I remember right there was 20 in a pack, I planted 10 in a tub and the rest in the beds. They do look lovely. They're mixed colours. Purple, white and yellow
