New crocus cultivar?

HotspurHotspur Posts: 30

Good evening all. Has anyone ever seen a crocus with a citrus yellow flower? I noticed one growing in my rockery, dug it up and potted and labeled it. I did take a photo but my cheapo camera produced a blurred image. There was no bulb as such just a small white bulbil. I am quite excited by this find as I have never seen this colour ever, it is almost dayglo yellow. Some feedback would be good. Incidentally there are only the usual purple kinds growing in this bed but I do have specie crocus (v. pale lilac) but these always flower in late January so the chance of cross pollination is slight to say the least.

Could a squirrel have moved it from a neighbours garden?

We have some purple crocus popping up in the lawn, we didnt plant them there. Look up Crocus chrysanthus Romance.... a lemon yellow early flowering cultivar.

I discovered it yesterday PM when having a tidy up. It is definitely not C. Chrysanthus Romance it is very bright. My laptop is of the Fred Flintstone variety so no camera alas. I will endeavour to upload the blurred shots I took so you can see the colour.
