Looks more like one of the sweet violets, not like dog violet or labradorica, but there's dozens of others....

It will be one of the wild species.

I can never smell violets so I don't know if it's scentedimage

I don't think I can either, unless it's that I need a large bunch of them. Haven't got any sweet ones to grow, though I've tried once or twice, but love the little dog violets that pop up in the cracks between the paving flags and in the limestone chippings on the yard.

Maybe it's a genetic thing, like freesias. Or like asparagus, where one gene makes your wee smell weird and another one means you can or can't smell it. Where's the evolutionary adantage there?image

Sorry yours are a bit depressed. Mine are sad at times. they're not out as far as that this year yet. I'm on a mission to label up all the thousands of pics in the files and got stuck at this one

Wow, that's beautiful. I love delicate small flowers the most!

You're keeping a record of each plant in your garden? That's an amazing idea! I don't know why I haven't done that yet. I think its quite a tedious job to do, but sounds like it'd be completely worth it!

It would have been more worth it if I'd labelled them up in the first place Jerryimage

There are lots of gaps, things long gone, I was even less organised when I started.
