Grass Problem

image

I have a problem with a fungus which is spreading through my grass. (See attached picture)

What is it called, and how do I get rid of it?

Is it harmful to children or pets?

Can't help with an ID but a quick google search threw up the following thread on another forum with similar images. Unfortunately not a great deal of content on the thread.

It's dog lichen Meldrum. It's not harmful or poisonous. To get rid you need to improve the drainage in the lawn. Improving drainage is a better long term solution than using chemicals. You need to aereate the lawn and brush grit into the holes. Lifting the grass with a a fork will improve air circulation as well.

    Thanks to both Dave's.

I've bought one of those things which removes plugs of soil. I'll get some lawn sand to brush into the holes & see how it goes.

Looks like I've got a lot of hard work over the next few weeks!

Use grit not lawn sand Meldrum. Works better.
