Pruning dogwood
Hi, I was just wondering how people prune their dogwood? I have 4, planted early last year and although a decent height, they only have about 4 or 5 stems each. I've cut back hard any thin stems and left 1 or 2 of the thickest and just cut them by about 1/2. Then I forked in a little grow more and mulched. Does this sound ok?

The idea is to enjoy the coloured stems during the winter then take all the stems down to around a foot from the ground in early spring. I have done this for years, the stems grow and spread, once the leaves drop in Autumn you enjoy the lovely coloured stems, setting them against a single golden privet gives a glow of colour to cheer things up on cold frosty mornings.
