Carbide Brushcutter blades

Hi - Newbie here.

I want to replace my worn out brushcutter blade with a 9" 230mm carbide blade. They don't seem to be generally available in the UK, just the USA and Australia. Has anyone any experience of using one of these types of blade and why aren't they available in the UK without a bit of hunting around? And also can any 230mm carbide blade such as a saw blade be used instead provided maximum revolutions aren't exceeded?

Don't use a saw blade, they are not designed to cope with flexible loads like a brushcutter and may disintegrate in a very dangerous manner if they experience off-axis loads.

One UK source I found was Forest World Ltd on ebay - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Forest-World-Ltd but they don't have 9" blades. Eckmann do a 10" blade for their 4 stroke brushcutter which might fit.  Ebay gets you all the US suppliers but postage costs make them very expensive. Maybe a small business opportunity for someone to buy wholesale and sell in the UK.

  • Yes, thank you Steephill. There had to be a reason for not using other non-specific blades. You're right about eBay and I just had delivered 2 carbide blades that took over 3 weeks to arrive from USA. The postage was more than double the cost of the blades by quite a bit. Can't understand why there are virtually none in the UK, as you say an opportunity for someone. And most of them do seem to be 10" 255mm rather than 230mm. Thanks very much for your advice.
